Hughes & Salvidge

Generating a 401% return on marketing spend

Background

Established in 1964, Hughes and Salvidge has grown to become one of the UK's leading demolition, decommissioning and dismantling specialists, delivering complex projects across a wide range of industrial sectors for more than six decades. Renowned for its unwavering commitment to health and safety, quality, environmental responsibility and innovation, the company has built a reputation for successfully delivering challenging projects in highly regulated and operational environments.

A key differentiator for Hughes and Salvidge is its integrated service model. Working alongside its associated companies, K&B Crushers, H&S Metals and H&S Asbestos, the group delivers a complete end-to-end solution that enables clients to streamline project delivery while maximising recycling and recovery opportunities. This collaborative approach allows the group to manage every stage of a project's lifecycle, from demolition and asbestos removal through to crushing, recycling and responsible material recovery, helping clients reduce waste, minimise environmental impact and achieve significant cost efficiencies.

The challenge

Hughes & Salvidge came to us as an established name in demolition and waste recycling with a strong reputation in the South of England and a group of brands that simply weren't being reflected to its optimum potential online.

They needed a new website, but more than that, they needed someone who could take a step back and look at the bigger picture: how the group's brands sat alongside one another, how they were communicating with customers and how their marketing activity could be pulled together in a way that actually made sense. They weren't looking for just a website and marketing, they were looking for a growth partner.

Our approach

Phase 1

Brand Refresh & Identity

We started where we always start, with the brand. We had to make sure the foundations were right to set the tone for the family of businesses going forward.

The brand didn’t need a complete redesign, it simply needed to be brought up to date. We did this by enhancing their existing brand identity and giving each sister company the consistency and quality it needed to carry across the portfolio of businesses without losing their distinct qualities.

Phase 2

Website design and build

From there, we designed and developed a new master brand website on our bespoke content management system (CMS), Serenity Source.

The strategy behind this was straightforward but important: rather than treating each brand in the group as a separate project, we built a single master site that could be duplicated and reskinned for their sister brands, H&S Metals, K&B Crushers and H&S Asbestos. Not only did this strategy work from a consistency point of view, but all four websites were delivered at a fraction of the cost and time that three independent builds would have required. Put simply, this is a strategy we use time and time again to save businesses both time and money.

Key outcomes for H&S Asbestos

1,806% Increase in organic visibility

Massive expansion in search presence, directly driving a 57% increase in overall website visits.

8% Organic search conversion rate

Performs comfortably well above industry average benchmarks, proving the site attracts highly qualified traffic.

725% Increase in organic conversions

Led organic conversion gains alongside strong cross-channel growth in Microsoft Ads (+178%) and Google Ads (+95%).

Phase 3

SEO & Paid Advertising

With the websites now live, we took on the strategy and management of their paid advertising and SEO to ensure that the traffic coming to these new sites was qualified, relevant and had real potential to convert.

Because our paid ads, SEO and design teams work together under one roof (literally sitting next to one another), we were able to align activity across all three channels in a way that simply isn't possible when you're working with multiple agencies. Campaigns informed content, content supported rankings and rankings reduced the cost per acquisition from paid ads. When all marketing campaigns are aligned in a full-service partnership, it compounds into a real commercial investment with measurable results and return on investment.

Phase 4

Ongoing creative & brand collateral

Running alongside all of this, our creative lead, Jessie, has built up a close working relationship with the Hughes & Salvidge team over the years producing hundreds of branded visual assets including brochures, leaflets, signage and more.

It's the kind of ongoing, hands-on design support that keeps a brand looking sharp across every touchpoint, both on and offline.

The result

Conclusion

Hughes & Salvidge shows what integrated marketing management can deliver when it's done properly. There's no gap between the website and the ads, no disconnect between the brand guidelines and what ends up in print. Everything runs through the same team, working to the same brief, with a shared understanding of what the business is trying to achieve.

That's the difference an integrated approach makes. It's the same principle behind our three pillar promise of business growth, efficiency, and building assets that sit on the books rather than disappearing the moment a campaign ends. For Hughes & Salvidge, that has meant a website that keeps generating enquiries long after launch, marketing processes that runs more efficiently because both teams are working from the same brief, and a brand presence that's grown stronger and more valuable with every year we've worked together.

What started as a conversation about a new website became a long-term working relationship, one that continues to support one of the South of England's most established demolition and recycling groups as they grow.
