A bespoke e-commerce website with increased creative control has resulted in a huge increase in sales for Signbox

Client background:

Signbox design, manufacture and install signage for a wide range of clients from many industries and sectors. They’ve spent over 35 years conceiving remarkable signage solutions that have inspired, motivated and empowered clients around the world.

The range includes both physical and digital signage for many uses including information, health and safety, directional, marketing, nameplates, plaques, branding, notices and more. Signbox manufactures their products on a range of materials including sustainable glass, metal, woods, dry wipe and acrylics.

The requirement

Signbox already had their corporate brochure website, but they required a new ecommerce shop website to enable off-the-shelf products to be sold. The new website needed to follow the company branding and feel part of the family alongside the brochure site. However, as an ecommerce website, the layout needed to change to encourage visitors to perform different tasks; more specifically, buying products.

The site needed to be built to the following specification:

  • 150+ off-the-shelf signage products (for launch)
  • Products with a variety of variants (size, weight, colour, quantity options)
  • Integration with their shipping and preferred payment providers
  • Bespoke facilities to manage product relationships, cross swell and up sell
  • Options for trade and domestic users

Signbox chose to work with Serenity on this project because they provided an attractive quotation, were personable and friendly, and have the ability to deliver bespoke solutions outside of normal off-the-shelf ecommerce facilities

The challenges

Due to the complexity and variety of Signbox’s clientele and product inventory, there was a range of customisations Serenity Digital needed to produce to facilitate the inventory. These included:

  • Products and their accessories available as different variants (some with over 20 options) with different pricing points
  • Customised product relationship architecture to manage up sell and cross sell functions
  • Pay by invoice and direct client email customisations
  • Bespoke discount bands
  • Integration with Google Shopping

The solution

Serenity suggested a bespoke ecommerce site which would be built in Serenity Source with their Serenity Shop ecommerce extension as its architecture lends itself to bespoke websites and ecommerce functions. The completed website included:

  • An installation of Serenity Source and Serenity Shop to power the website on a sub-domain of Signbox’s brochure site
  • Integration with SagePay payment provider
  • Integration with UPS shipping
  • Guest checkout as well as registered user checkout (for saving and retrieving historical orders)
  • Simple login area with previous orders, order monitoring and address/profile management.
  • On brand, mobile-first design utilising modern user interface and flourishes of animation
  • SEO-friendly architecture to help the site perform to expectations
  • Client software training to provide the skills to manage both site and product content with confidence

“Having a fully functioning ecommerce facility is essential for most businesses and it has proved to be a resilient return on investment, especially throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Signbox were able to rapidly react to customer requirements for social distancing signs and graphics with a dedicated page for our online range. The Serenity team has provided robust and prompt support at all times.”

Mark Bartlett, Managing Director, Signbox Ltd

The outcome:

Signbox were extremely happy with their new ecommerce shop. Highlights for them include:

  • Accurate shipping costs, ensuring the shop is operating without a loss
  • A seamless transition to the new site with consistent traffic levels
  • Easy to use site administration and increased creative control
  • Increased sales of 1000% per month

“This project was challenging but hugely rewarding. The Serenity Digital and Signbox teams are very close and the final project became a true collaboration between both companies. Our team were responsible for the design and technical delivery and the client’s team were responsible for the successful population of content and photography.”
