After the seamless migration of websites
Signbox already had a corporate brochure site, but needed a new ecommerce shop to sell their off-the-shelf products, one that felt like part of the same family as the brochure site while working in a completely different way. Where a brochure site is built to inform, an ecommerce site has to encourage visitors to act, specifically to buy.
The brief called for more than 150 off-the-shelf signage products at launch, many with a wide range of variants across size, weight, colour and quantity, integration with Signbox's shipping and payment providers, bespoke tools to manage product relationships, cross-sell and upsell, and separate options for trade and domestic customers. Signbox chose Serenity because we offered an attractive quotation, were personable to work with, and had the ability to deliver bespoke solutions that went beyond what an off-the-shelf ecommerce platform could handle.
The complexity of Signbox’s product range and clientele meant a significant amount of custom development was needed. Products and accessories needed to work as different variants, some with more than 20 options and their own pricing, alongside a customised product relationship structure for upselling and cross-selling, pay-by-invoice and direct client email customisations, bespoke discount bands and integration with Google Shopping.
We built the new shop on Serenity Source with our Serenity Shop ecommerce extension, an architecture suited to exactly this kind of bespoke ecommerce build, and installed it on a subdomain of Signbox's existing brochure site so the two felt properly connected.
The finished site integrated SagePay for payments and UPS for shipping, with both guest checkout and a registered user checkout that lets customers save and retrieve past orders. A simple login area gives customers access to previous orders, order tracking and their address and profile details.
The design followed Signbox's existing brand closely, built mobile-first with a modern interface and subtle touches of animation, and structured with an SEO-friendly architecture to help the site perform well from launch. Once built, we ran software training with the Signbox team so they had the confidence to manage both the site and their product content themselves going forward.
Signbox saw monthly sales increase by 1000% after launch. The migration to the new site was seamless, with traffic levels holding steady throughout the transition, and shipping costs are now calculated accurately, so the shop operates without absorbing a loss. The team at Signbox also found the new site far easier to administer day to day, giving them far more creative control over their own content than they'd had before.
Signbox needed an ecommerce platform capable of handling real complexity, from products with dozens of variants to bespoke pricing and discount structures, without losing the brand identity of their existing site. What they got was a genuine asset in its own right, one that sits on the books and keeps earning its keep, rather than a site that needed replacing again a few years down the line. It's also made their day-to-day admin considerably lighter, freeing up time that used to go on managing orders and stock by hand. And with sales up tenfold since launch, the platform has done exactly what it was built to do: turn a new sales channel into a genuine growth engine, one that proved its worth when it mattered most during the pandemic.
